The Old National School is definitely a rural property with its moorland location, yet it is only an easy 10 minute drive to the market town of Tavistock, with its many independent shops, market and pubs/restaurants.
Dartmoor
Dartmoor covers just over 86,000 acres and has had national park status since 1951. It is characterised by tors, granite strewn slopes, open moorland, bog and mires. There is much evidence of Bronze Age settlements with stone rows, circles and standing stones. With its unique environment, the moor is home to grazing livestock but also provides a unique habitat to rare butterflies and birds such as Snipe, cuckoos, stonechat, you may even be lucky enough to see fairy shrimp (true!) or the world’s biggest land slugs!!! Dartmoor is also heaven for moss and lichens. Where ever you are on Dartmoor, you will be astounded by the beauty of this ancient, rugged land.
